This recording is one of the most sought-after from the Living Stereo series – and rightly so. Prokofiev's “Lieutenant Kije” presents conductor Fritz Reiner and his Chicago Symphony Orchestra with powerful melodies, vivid colors, daring harmonies and unyielding rhythms. Although Reiner and his musicians had previously made a name for themselves primarily as Strauss interpreters, they surpass themselves with this recording! Prokofiev was recorded on March 2, 1957, and Stravinsky on November 3, 1956, at Chicago Symphony Hall.
The reissue of the “RCA Living Stereo Classical” series by Analogue Productions meets the highest audiophile standards: Bernie Grundman is responsible for remastering the original tapes. The double LP (45 RPM) includes a 2-page booklet and was pressed on 180-gram vinyl by industry leader Quality Record Pressings (QRP) using Classic Records equipment.
