Although Crosby, Stills & Nash had been together for well over a decade at the time of the release of “Daylight Again” (1982), it was only their third studio album to contain completely new material. For the recordings, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash toyed with the idea of Art Garfunkel and Timothy B. Schmit (Eagles) as singers, since David Crosby, who was heavily addicted to drugs at the time, was hardly able to work anymore. Despite his vocal limitations, Crosby was included in the studio work, but the Eagles frontman and CSN keyboardist Mark Finnigan was given the vocal solo parts. Garfunkel contributed to the title track.
Despite the difficult circumstances, “Daylight Again” went platinum, even though only one song – the lyrically poignant “Delta” – was written by Crosby. Among the most remarkable pieces on the album are Graham Nash's “Wasted On The Way” and “Southern Cross”, composed by Michael and Richard Curtis with Stephen Stills. Both songs were released as singles and later became an integral part of the band's repertoire – both on compilations and live.
