The five-movement Piano Quintet in A major op. 114 by Franz Schubert, which gained great popularity under the name "Trout Quintet", was composed in the summer of 1819. It remains extremely popular today, so it is all the more pleasing that Analogue Production has reissued this recording with the renowned pianist Clifford Curzon, violinist Willi Boskovsky and the other members of the Vienna Octet.
The ensemble's refreshing performance reflects the sparkling lightness and virtuosity of the work. This well-balanced recording from Vienna's Sofiensaal in 1957, with its full sound, certainly deserves a place in every music lover's collection. Remastered by Willem Makkee.
