Producer Norman Granz's original intention was to release no more outtakes or breakdowns. However, so much material came together during the recording of the classic 'The Trumpet Summit Meets the Oscar Peterson Big 4', where the musicians played with such dedication and expressiveness despite missed cues and technical problems, that Granz allowed the mood to prevail over perfection. The Alternate Blues' contains (with one exception) previously unreleased material from this session. A strong 'Pablo' reissue for jazz trumpet fans!
