The 1958 recording of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor and Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2 in G minor is another testament to the virtuosity of the exceptional violinist Jascha Heifetz. In collaboration with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Charles Munch, Heifetz brings classical elegance and beauty to Mendelssohn's famous work with ease and deep musicality. The tone is superb, the phrasing ingenious down to the smallest detail. Heifetz and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Munch, give an equally emotional and brilliant account of Prokofiev's concerto.
For the re-release of this RCA Living Stereo recording, Analogue Productions commissioned Ryan Smith of Sterling Sound to remaster the original master tapes. The lacquer foils have been cut directly from the 3-track master tape created during the recording, enhancing the transparency and three-dimensionality of the SACD reissue compared to the original pressings, giving it a beautiful string sound and superior dynamics in the bass range.
