When Bob Marley died, he was one of the world's first global superstars – famous and celebrated from Europe to Africa to America. Some saw him not just as a reggae singer, but as a folk hero, a kind of freedom fighter. And to this day, his legacy is bigger than the music he made, wrote Pitchfork. In the 21st century, Bob Marley is a global cultural icon and the first Jamaican to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. “Natty Dread”, Bob Marley's seventh album, was released in 1974 and was his first album recorded without Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer as The Wailers. “Natty Dread” was extremely successful, especially in the UK, where it reached number 43 on the charts and sold over 100,000 copies, achieving gold status. Over time, it also gained popularity in other parts of the world and was ranked number 181 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time in 2003.
"Natty Dread" was a pivotal album in Bob Marley's discography, embodying the spirit of Rastafarian culture and the socio-political landscape of Jamaica during that period. The title track, “No Woman, No Cry”, not only became one of Marley's most famous and most covered songs, but also a powerful anthem of resistance and hope that captured the struggles and joys of everyday life in the ghetto. “Natty Dread” cemented Marley's international fame and recognition as a musician and contributed significantly to his legendary status.
