In September 1956, a 27-year-old pianist named Bill Evans quietly recorded his debut album, “New Jazz Conceptions” – a bold statement from a musician who was still largely unknown: Miles Davis had not yet called him, and most listeners had no idea what to expect from Evans. Listening to the album today, one can already recognize the genius that was to reshape modern jazz piano at that time. On “New Jazz Conceptions”, Evans' introspective touch, harmonic boldness and rhythmic sensitivity were already fully developed. Whether in the complex trio interplay with Teddy Kotick (bass) and Paul Motian (drums) or the luminous solo passages, the listener is left with the feeling of having made a discovery. Bill Evans celebrates the kind of music that is both intellectual and deeply human, never losing its emotional appeal. For collectors, “New Jazz Conceptions” is an absolute must-have. Fred Kaplan (Stereophile, November 1, 2017) writes about the sound quality of this mono recording: “These are, for the most part, exceptionally good... better than anything else you can find!”
Even the master tapes of the original recordings offer breathtaking sound quality. The remasters by Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman at AcousTech Mastering, on which the Riverside LP boxes from Analogue Productions with the 45 RPM versions of the collected Bill Evans albums are based, have been frenetically celebrated by audiophiles and the music media. Now, at last, Analogue Productions is offering “New Jazz Conceptions” for sale individually: as a 180-gram double LP, pressed by RTI and also cut at 45 RPM! We would like to point out that this strictly limited LP is a real dream record for audiophiles! It will sell out quickly, so don't wait too long to make your purchase decision!
