Dizzy Gillespie wrote his classic “A Night In Tunisia” in 1942 while working with Benny Carter. Thirty-four years later, the two recorded the legendary piece together for “Carter, Gillespie, Inc.”. Recorded on April 27, 1976, at RCA Studios in Los Angeles, California, this album features one of the two artists' most brilliant performances. AllMusic wrote: “Although they came from different musical generations (Benny Carter was born ten years before Dizzy Gillespie), it's no wonder that the swing alto saxophonist and the bop trumpeter harmonized so well in this sextet session; they just fit together well.” Carter, Gillespie, Inc. also features two lesser-known pieces that are considered masterpieces among experts: Gillespies “Constantinople” and Carters “The Courtship” also gained this status thanks to the great band consisting of Tommy Flanagan (piano), Joe Pass (guitar), Al McKibbon (bass) and Mickey Roker (drums).
As part of the “Pablo Reissue Series,” Analogue Productions now honors this jazz gem with a sonically outstanding reissue, lovingly mastered by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab. The LP, pressed on 180-gram vinyl by industry leader Quality Record Pressings (QRP) and cut at 33 RPM, comes in an tip-on pocket jacket by Stoughton Printing.
