The double LP 'Stardust' contains a careful selection of Ben Webster recordings from the years 1964 to 1970. In the 1960s, the US jazz scene was undergoing profound changes under the influence of John Coltrane, and Webster found it increasingly difficult to make a living from his music. An offer to play for a month at Ronnie Scott's London jazz club marked a turning point in his career: he settled in Northern Europe and spent the last years of his life there.
Webster's playing is as passionate and intense as ever. In his beautiful, almost tender interpretations of ballads, he never succumbed to the temptation to increase the tempo, as was common at the time. This is why he is regarded as one of the "warmest and most sensitive" performers (Barry Ulanov).
This 'Deluxe 2 Tape Edition', mastered by René Laflamme, contains two audiophile SM900 tapes recorded at 15 ips in CCIR (also available in NAB) on two balanced metal reels, manufactured in Germany by Feinwerktechnik Allgäu. It is accompanied by a booklet.
