The DC10A’s newly developed 10inch Dual Concentric™ driver is powered by Alcomax 3 Alnico motors to deliver a sweet,natural and inherently coherent sound. A new multi-fibre cone material has been developed specifically for the DC10A to realise the very best from the Alnico magnet system and the HF driver is fitted with the latest iteration of Tannoy’s famous Pepperpot WaveGuide™. The large DC10A birch-ply cabinet features a Mass Loading Cavity enabling users to fine tune LF reproduction to their listening room and a new heavyweight metal plinth assembly with convenient top-adjustable spikes. Finished with the contemporary flair and immaculate detailing applied across the Definition range, the DC10A is visually stunning and musically breath-taking.
Alnico powered Dual Concentric™ driver
The new 10 inch Dual Concentric driver draws its inspiration from the classic Duals found in some of Tannoy’s most successful and longest running Prestige series models. Powered by the Alcomax 3 Alnico motors, this classic driver magnet material has exceptional field strength and unique electrical properties. Famed for delivering a sweet, natural and inherently coherent sound, Alnico powered drivers have long been the preferred choice of discerning musicians. From jazz and blues to folk and rock music, the Alnico sound is consistently rich and engaging, delivering realism rarely achieved by ferrite ceramic drivers.
Further refined with modern materials and high-tech engineering, the DC10A driver uses the latest iteration of Tannoy’s aluminium alloy tweeter with PepperPot WaveGuide™. Mid and low frequency reproduction is handled by a multi-fibre cone specified and tuned to realise the smoothness and musicality inherent of the Alnico magnet system. Each driver is hand assembled by Tannoy engineers before mounting into the cabinet with Tannoy’s patented Differential Material Technology (DMT™). This results in unsurpassed rigidity of the driver/enclosure coupling and optimum performance of the DC10A’s unique Dual Concentric driver.
Curved ply cabinet with DMT™ and MLC™
Further developing the award winning Definition concept, the DC10A uses a beautifully sculptured rear-ported cabinet formed using Tannoy’s signature ply-wood laminate. Each cabinet is constructed from the finest grade birch wood, sourced from cooler, slower-growing regions to further improve the cabinet’s natural acoustic properties. The complex parabolic curves minimise acoustic resonances and internal reflections. Less coloured and more natural sounding than fibreboard cabinets, the DC10A’s large internal volume is port loaded and tuned to deliver the most natural and accurate LF extension. A special bracing mechanism, incorporating Tannoy’s Differential Material Technology™ (DMT), rigidly couples the driver/enclosure interface, further improving Definition’s accuracy in instrumental timbre.
The new DC10A plinth is a heavyweight all-metal design, with innovative top-adjustable floor spikes, designed to give exceptional acoustic rigidity and physical stability. The large volume cabinets have been engineered to include a Mass Loading Cavity (MLC) in the lower section. Gas sealed from the main enclosure the MLC can be filled with a range of particle ballast materials to further tighten LF response and enhance subtle nuances in the articulation of bass instruments.
Each Definition cabinet is hand finished to an exceptionally high standard in a choice of high gloss lacquered real wood veneers or high gloss black. Subtle aluminium trim to conceal fixings, magnetic grille mounts embedded below the surface and discrete Tannoy branding ensures Definition is clean and contemporary looking throughout.
Crossover with Deep Cryogenic Treatment
High end components and a ‘simple, straight’ philosophy combine to create across over with an ultra-clean signal path. Low loss laminated core inductors ensure optimum LF performance while the HF network’s audiophile grade polypropylene capacitors are acoustically damped using the Tannoy DMT™ material. The Definition crossover sets the benchmark for signal integrity, reproducing music with all the articulation and intelligibility of the original performance.
The entire crossover assembly is subject to revolutionary Deep Cryogenic Treatment (DCT), achieving unparalleled gains in resolution and creating a more natural, cohesive sound. Using a proprietary process, the Definition crossover is super cooled to –190 degrees Celsius and warmed over a set time period. This permanently reduces internal stresses in the microstructure of the crossover’s components, conductors and solder joints, leading to better signal transfer and superior resolution of fine detail.
Internal wiring is minimal crystal boundary PCOCC cable throughout and the terminal block features substantial WBT Nextgen™ 24k gold plated high purity copper binding posts. Tannoy’s unique fifth speaker terminal electrically grounds the driver chassis, dramatically reducing radio frequency interference circulating in most hi-fi audio systems. Eliminating this RF ‘noise’ in Definition DC10A reaps considerable benefits in midrange clarity and further opens up the sound stage throughout the presence region for truly expressive music presentation.
